If you do a Bing (or Yahoo) Internet search on just the name "Lucian," you will see the most famous holder of that name in the number one spot, Lucian of Samosata. In fact, he is so famous as a Lucian, that he holds several of the top ten spots in the search for his (and my) name. He was a writer in the second century and was noted for his witty satirical humor. He is possibly the father of science-fiction as a writing genre because of a famous short story about traveling to the moon. He wrote this around the year A.D. 150. Definitely a man ahead of his time. I write science-fiction, too. My sense of humor has been called many things. I'm sure "satirical" was in there once or twice, along with many other colorful adjectives.
The number two position is held by the fictional character, Lucian the Lycan, from the werewolf and vampire movie "Underworld" and the prequel "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans." He and I share many things in common, too. It seems he is a very hard man (or wolf) to kill. Me too. He's been shot lots of times. Me too. He even likes knives and swords. Ditto for me and I have the stitches to prove it. The full moon tends to drive me a little kooky, too (just ask my wife). But I haven't quite figured out that whole "changing-into-a-wolf" thing yet. I'm still trying.
Number four on the list is me, Lucian of Planet TV (as of 02-254-11). Number four is not bad for a six letter name, millions of search hits, four Hollywood movies and a couple of thousand years of human history. And that's without my own Wikipedia page... or MySpace page... or Facebook page. I'm also number four on a Yahoo search and number 86 on a Google search (as of 02-25-11). But that'll change. My goal is to overtake the old man – on all the search engines. Two thousand years at the top is long enough. And I'm not worried about the werewolf. I like canines. Good doggy. Now get out of the way. I'm coming through.
